I discovered a new pattern today

My lunchtime fishing actually happened today. Jesse and I went to the pond for lunch and got in 40 minutes of fishing. The pond was recently stocked with trout, and has the usual assortment of 'gills, crappie, bass, walleye in it. The water was pretty clear and the sun cast its warming rays all over the surface.

And I discovered a new pattern. That pattern:

NEVER post that I'm going fishing with any expectation of success again!!! Every time I do that, I strike out miserably

I've done that twice, and twice I would have had better luck if I had stayed in our company parking lot. This time we could actually SEE trout - they just ignored, or ran from, our lures.

I HATE to end the year on such a lousy note. I may have to try it again tomorrow.

But I'll have NO expectations

You can't end it like that. You have to go back out!

But you said you were going to try to get out again tomorrow...

I'm positive you can break this pattern! It was probably too warm today.

Best of luck!

Agreed, don't stop now. If all else fails the next time, try dynamite.

I can relate to that, Wolfy! It's happened more times than I care to remember. I agree with the other guys, though. If you don't go you'll never know.

If you let my theory of "Sometimes the fish win" remain on your mind all winter that will be tough to take. Put a Cubby on and go get some fish!

I have been told that every time I lose a fish it is because I had it cooked and on the plate before it was in the boat. Do not count your chickens until they are hatched.
Cheers

We've often left the house knowing it was going to be a productive day; we're proven wrong nearly every time. Those damn expectations...

You can't quit now. You still have a month and a half until the end of the year or won't the F&G let you fish after 11/15?

This is one of my fishing superstitions. If you brag up a trip before it happens, it will be the worst trip ever. Set expectations for “wait and see”. The first person to jinx the whole trip by saying, “Oh man we are going to blast some big fish today…” gets to walk home if we skunk.

Good advice from all. So - today, I am NOT going fishing - nope, not going near the oponds. Probably just spend lunch driving around and not even thinking about fish or fishing. ;)

Mark - season stays open, but I've never done any good in the pre-ice up cold water. Might be out for a last hurrah on the Delta in Dec. - if so, I'll let you know in advance.

We need to go fishing one of these days. I'm always looking for more places to go. Some of these neighborhood ponds are loaded with fish. Read Cappy's Pond on Friday to find out more.....

Nature sure has a good way of keeping us in line. I know the second I open my mouth and say, "it's going to be a great day to hunt," I won't see a deer! lol!

Don't give up though. There is still a fish out there who's hungry! I just know it...

Every time I talked about fishing this past summer, it rained. Nope, I'm not talking any more.

Hey, thanks for the consideration. Favor is returned!
