Illinois Earthquake

Guess what? Illinois had an earthquake last night. Nothing like the tremors felt regularly on the West coast, but a seismic event nonetheless. 3.9 of the Richter scale. The epicenter was about 35 miles NNW of where I live. At 4:00 AM, I woke to a noticeably shaking house. Did something hit the house?? It felt like a train was rumbling by, just outside the house. But there are no tracks nearby.

We sustained no damage. Some of the people at work who live a little closer had some pictures fall off the walls.

It was sort of interesting since I had only experienced one other similar sized quake, and that was about 30 years ago. I do know one thing, though - I have no desire to experience a BIG quake.

Hey Joe, sure glad thateverything is all right and no apparent damages.

Isn't that an odd happening this time of year?

Joe, the times they are a changing. All is not right in the world and I think we better start getting used to it. Glad you are alright.

Must be global warming! Seriously, glad to see you made it through relatively unscathed.

Hey Joe. The exact reason I moved from Los Angeles. Good to hear all is OK.

Apparently people around here felt it. Not me, I'm a deep sleeper!

Glad to hear everything is OK your way. I thought about you when I heard this. They say it could be felt as far away as Iowa, but the funny thing is, I didn't feel a disturbance in the Force. I must be losing it.

Here's to hoping that if it happens again, it will be on an even smaller scale.

Thanks all for your concern. Our area isn't very likely to experience a major seismic event, so i'm not too concerned about more of them. I think they're pretty unusual here no matter when they happen.

Whisperer - I think there's some truth in what you say.

Clif - I slep through ANYTHING, so when it woke me up, it became significant due to that fact alone!

It's been a really long time since I've felt an earthquake. The last one in Idaho was probably 20 plus years ago.
Glad it was a mini-one that didn't cause damage to your family or others around.
