Fish Pictures

Warning - this might end up being the post where my blog "Jumps the Shark"

I've said repeatedly on this blog that I wanted to expand my photography experiences and post them on here. Wait - actual photography is what you see on a couple of the blogs on my Blog List - A Focus on Nature and Hannibal's Animals jump to mind. I merely take pictures. I don't have professional grade cameras, or filters, or anything but a new-ish compact camera. But I still like to take pictures and post them on this blog.

The advances made recently in digital cameras - and by recent, I mean the past 5 years or so - are mind boggling. My first digital that was better than a disposable was a Canon 6 mp Power Shot. It had a few scene modes available, and took pretty decent pictures. My current camera is a Samsung TL 220 12.2 mp camera that has so many features I'll never figure them all out. Trying to get my hands around the functions I will use is why I've been carrying the camera along on every trip to the ponds (when I remember). Plus - I like looking at other people's photos in their blog posts, so I put some in mine too.

One feature I've always admired but have never really used much is macro-photography - taking focused photos from 1" - 5" away from the subject. Since fish are "my thing" I thought I'd try it on them first.

As with all the photos I post, you can click on the photo and see a larger version. I think this will be necessary to view these pictures. on a personal note, I really like the way they came out. There is a lot of subtle coloration on them. So, without further ado - UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL WITH THE FISH FROM MY PONDS.

Crappie

Bluegill

Largemouth Bass

Walleye

(The walleye cheek looks like it has gold dust on it!)

Assuming I don't get bombarded with comments like "You're an idiot -what were you thinking???", I'll continue doing this type of thing as I catch more species to photograph. Pumpkinseeds and Green Sunfish should be soon. Ah hell - I'll probably do it even if no likes it but me. After all, it is my blog!!

Very cool Wolfy.
It's cool to get a close up look at how complex the coloring gets on these fish. It's hard to appreciate those things when we're focused on taking a picture and throwing it back so we don't cause any damage to the fish. Or put it on the stringer and try to catch
another. :)

Here's hoping you catch a bunch more fish to take pictures of.

Way cool! I can't get my camera to take pics that close up. They be fuzzy, even when set to the close-up mode.

Keep 'em coming!

Nice. Gotta say, I believe I like the bluegill ones the best!

I really like these pictures! It's cool to see the coloring close up and the eyes, WOW! Very cool shots.

I also have to say that I love your attitude at the end! It is your blog and when you loose that all goes to heck! (a small bit of experience on that one...lol!)

Keep up the good work over here!

I think you are way to hard on yourself, Wolfy. This is very fine work. I love the close up colorization that you have brought out in each fish. Love to see you do this with say a Brookie or Rainbow Trout.

Kudos my friend.

Wolfy, very cool. I think you are onto something. You might also try different angles, like face on etc. Don't forget shoot for yourself, never mind anyone else.

Thanks for all the comments, folks. I'm actualy having a great time messing around with these fish pictures. And Fish Whisperer stole my thunder for a future project - straight on "what you see before being eaten by a fish" shots! Great minds must think alike, FW!!

Hey Wolfy,
Now you just had to go and do it didn’t you? Just when I thought that my own basic attempts at capturing what I see to show you folks were passable, you go and throw this bleedin’ curveball. Great photographs which really bring forward colours and detail usual lost in the normal click and point world of us bloggers, curse you Wolfy, curse you ……
Just have to try harder now won’t I? Great job my friend, inspirational too (more muttered curses).
All the very best,
John

Thanks again to all for the comments.

While I really do enjoy this "messing around with photos" stuff, It actually does motivate me even a little more when I know others are looking at them, too.

And I KNOW John at Musings of Murphyfish will come up with something great, so I'm going to need to bring my A game !! I've got a card up my sleeve for later this week - if the weather cooperates, I should have some good Rocky Mountain pictures after Friday.

Thanks agin for coming along for the ride.
