Time for a FLY FISHING giveaway on Flowing Waters

All right- I know Spring has to emerge sooner or later, so, I was doing what I normally do when I can't go fishing - messing around with my fishing gear. Those of you who actually read this blog will recollect that, on occasions, I have alluded to the fact that i have an inordinate amount of fishing gear. My wife tells me that I am a shoe-in for a future episode of "Hoarders". I can see it now - "OK, just step over that box of reels. Don't put your hand there - those lures have exposed hooks. Don't open that door - the closet is full of guns" But - I digress. I believe the comment from my wife this afternoon was "You couldn't use all this if you fly fished every day for the rest of your life" She may be right - I don't think she is, but she may be. The problem, of course, is that I fly fish for trout about 1-3 days per year. At that rate, I figure I'm good until about 2167.

Now, in my mind, there is nothing worse than good stuff that goes un-used. To remedy that situation - at least a little bit - I am having a Spring Fly Fishing Giveaway.

So, Joe - how's this going to work? Pretty simple, actually.

1) If you don't already FOLLOW this blog - sign up as a Follower
2) Post a comment telling me the size of your biggest trout caught on a fly, and what you caught it on. If you've NEVER caught a trout on a fly, but want to - state just that in the post!
3) Finally - what exactly can you, the blog follower, win? Pictures are below. Items in the Giveaway are:

SA Supra WF 5 F fly line
A Fog Eliminator anti-fogging cloth for glasses / sunglasses
SA Fly Floatant
3 leaders
A Catch & Release sticker
A flybox with 42 flies. Flies are as shown, and contain the standard stuff I use - Muddlers, Adams, Caddis, Pheasant Tails, Princes,...

It's that simple. Could it be any easier to enter to win this pack??

I will use the famous RNG (Random Number Generator) on Sunday, March 18 at 7 PM Central time and announce the winner that night.

Now, at first glance, this may appear to be a cheap, sordid attempt to lure people into reading and actually following this pathetic blog. It is. Why else would anyone ever follow this nonsense if they didn't feel like they had a chance to win some swag? Almost seems like bribery. Actually, it's JUST LIKE bribery!!

Here's my cat.

LOL even your cat is hiding it's face now. I'm actually have two trout that are just about tied for my biggest on a fly. A brookie and a rainbow, both just a haaaiiiiir over twenty inches. Both caught on a black wooly bugger. So I guess that's my 'go to' big fish fly?

Here's Mah CAt! :) LOL HAHAHAHaa...

OK, I'm in. My biggest trout on a fly was a 20+ inch rainbow I got on the Davidson River ( A TU Top 100 stream in NC ) a few years back. The fish was showing his lips to me underwater so I pitched a little green thread midge thing upstream and he moved 2 feet to take it! I about wet my pants! I never dreamed he'd move that far out of his feeding lane to take a fly that had little more than green thread and a small dab of black dubbing for the thorax. I think it was a #24.

You have the bestest contests. Maybe RD will stay out fishing until it's over. ;) LOL

What's that cat's name btw?

Great Giveaway!

I just caught my first trout on a fly TODAY! In fact, I managed 3 fish...two 12 inch rainbows and a nicer 14 inch brown. All three were caught on a brown wooly bugger.

Hello Joe, for various reasons that I am sure you have read about, I will "pass" on the fly fishing give-away. Just wanted to let you know that your wife and my wife sound a lot alike. She says I have a lot of "stuff". I tell her us fishing bloggers can never have enough "stuff". Have fun, all!

Sorry, OWL, I'm on my way back from Idaho and had to put my damsel hat into the contest!! My Bonneville Cutthroat trout was 26 inches and caught on an olive wooly bugger on the Strawberry Reservoir. Flyfishing from my pontoon last summer...And thanks, Wolfy for coming up with this giveaway!

I'd love to enter but I don't think I could put any to good use since I sort of fish Tenkara uniquely for a while now. Anyway... my biggest trout was a 27" brown trout from the West Branch Delaware River, taken on a size 26 beadhead pheasant tail and 5x. The same day I caught 2 more 23" brown trout that actually fought harder than the big guy.

Those are some great offerings.

OK, you know I don't usually enter these giveaways, but I have to enter this one. Here's why. My biggest trout on a fly rod was
2 lbs 8 oz caught on a rust colored Crystal Bugger I got from you, so I'm in. Cute cat.

I just took up fly fishing last year, so trout have still managed to elude me as I haven't had much time to get out this year yet, but let me tell you I can slay those blue gills.. haha.. Hoping for better results this year, since I'll be shelfing the spinning reel a good bit more..

My biggest trout was ~27" Idaho bull trout, caught on a 6" bull trout, which was caught on a size 12 olive woolybugger. I was stripping in the small bull trout when the big guy came out of root ball and swallowed him to the tail.

He was landed on a 6'6" 2wt rod with 5X tippet - I had a good net man!

I dont remember my biggest trout ever, once they go past 20 they're just, big... I'll tell you of a day where I caught 8 browns all over 18 and two of those were over 20,, all on streamers, on the float..
Best single, would be a 26 inch rainbow from the Gunnison river on 22 midge that Midgeman showed me..

Count me in for the goodies!

I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff, and I could use a new 5 wt fly line. Biggest trout? 23" on a gurgler.

Count me in- looks like I'll need to keep an eye on your blog. Good work.

please tell me that "here's my cat" is here to stay. I don't want it to be a two post wonder. i want cat pictures in the middle of july after a successful fishing post.

The biggest fish I caught is probably a 21-22" bull trout out of Rock Creek. It took a black sculpzilla. Biggest fish ever at the end of my line was a 24-20huge" rainbow on the Beaverhead. Snapped 1x leader (nowhere close to the knot).

The biggest I've caught yet was a 29" steelhead on a #14 micro egg hand tied by me. Landed it with a 5-6 eagle claw 8"6" rod

Never caught a trout, but that doesn't keep me from standing in the water and flailing.

Haven't caught a trout on fly since I could afford a camera!
